Description

Type material: Holotype (20.2mm wide x 15.4mm high) deposited at Paris National Museum of Natural History, France with Registration No: MNHN-IM-2000-38127. Other material: Paratype 1 (17.7mm) and Paratype 2 (18.4mm) in Dr Thach collection. All types from type locality.
Diagnosis: The new species is characterized by polygonal aperture, width larger than height, columella parallel to shell axis and anteriorly angulate, umbilicus walls pink and sculptured with many fine, curved, closely-spaced, oblique riblets.
Description: Shell medium-sized for the genus (with width range 17.7-20.2mm of collected specimens), slightly trochiform and rather thick. Shell height 80.0% of width and aperture height 59.3% of shell height, 47.0% of shell width. Spire tall, stepped with overhanging whorls, sutures deep. Sculpture at body whorl consists of many elevated, granulose spiral ribs with short axial riblets in interspaces. Aperture wide, polygonal in outline and nacreous, outer lip thick. Base convex with many granules around umbilicus, formed by intersections of regularly-spaced spiral ribs and narrow radial grooves. Columella undulate, thick, heavily calloused, parallel to shell axis and anteriorly angulate, umbilicus deep with walls sculptured by lot of fine, curved, closely-spaced, oblique riblets. Color pink-brown with blackish-brown dots and white stripes; the area at outer surface showing shell color under periostracum.

Interchangeable taxa

Comparison: The new species differs mainly from Solariella sanjuanensis Poppe, Tagaro & Dekker, 2006 in (1) different shape of body whorl, (2) wider aperture, (3) more angulate columella, (4) outer lip more convex, (5) spiral ribs not widely-spaced, (6) different patterns, (7) larger adult size, (8) different localities, Vietnam versus Philippines. Etymology: The new species is named in honor of Prof. Tomowo Ozawa from Japan for his interest at Vietnamese shells.
