Description

Shell fusiform, 3.34 mm, of approx. 5,5 whorls. Protoconch slightly granular and very prominent, inflated of 1,5 whorls. Teleoconch whorls slightly convex, indented at the sutures, sculpted with 12-13 ridged axial ribs and interstitial spiral cords, 4-5 on the penultimate whorl. Final whorl strongly contracted anteriorly with axials becoming obsolete towards the base, moderately strong cords around the anterior pillar. Aperture approx. 50 % total length of shell. Shell light pink in colour, stronger towards the lower half of the whorl, tan band on the shoulder below the suture, and a rose protoconch and second whorl. 4 columellar plaits, much stronger posteriorly. Inner lip indistinct or scarcely distinct, lirae absent or not evident on outer lip.

Holotype: h 3.34 x w 1.58 * ah 2.00 mm. Australia, Western Australia, S of Cape Leeuwin. (34°22'S, 114°08'E). Dredged at 73-144 m. Station G3/170-171/62, CSIRO, HMAS "Gascoyne" Expedition, August 9, 1962. (Text-Fig. 4; PI. 2, Fig. 3), WAM SI 12379.

Distribution and Habitat
Australia, Western Australia, Cape Leeuwin. In sand and gravel at depths of 73-144 m.
Etymology
The species is named after the type location, Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia.
Discussion
This species is only known from 2 specimens, and compared most closely to Austromitra rottnestensis n. sp. (PI. 4, Fig. 2). Apart from the coloration differences, the shoulder and spiral ribs are more distinct as well as the tan band below the suture easily distinguishes this species. The colour of the protoconch is pink in contrast to the cream coloration of A. rottnestensis n. sp.
