Description
Shell fusiform, 7.6 mm, of 6,25 whorls, spire profile slightly convex. Protoconch smooth, of 1,25 whorls, clearly demarcated from the teleoconch. Teleoconch whorls convex, sculptured with broad, smooth axial ribs, 10 or 11 on the penultimate whorl. Entire shell surface lacks dominant spiral sculpture, except for the anterior pillar which bears 5 strong spiral cords. Final whorl approximately two thirds of the total shell length. Aperture approx. 40 % total length of shell. Colour tan with a broad pale band above centre on the final whorl, apparent on the lower portion of the spire whorls, this bordered on either side by very fine brown lines, protoconch chocolate brown. Columella with 3-4 plaits, much stronger posteriorly. Parietal wall smooth, inner lip scarcely distinct. Anterior canal prominent, slightly recurved. Outer lip simple, interior lirae absent.
Holotype: h 7.64 x w 3.4 x ah 3.77 mm.

Discussion
This species is compared to Austromitra analogica (REEVE, 1845) (PI. 1, Fig. 4). This species is considerably smaller, the protoconch differs in the number of whorls and the sutural band is framed by fine mid tan lines. Axial ribs are also dominant on the final whorl. It is only known from one specimen currently, but is distinct from other species of Austromitra.
