Description

Epitonium raricosta: 25mm. Ovate-globose, last whorl expanding rapidly (no protoconch available for study). Spire whorls (of fresh specimens) bear sharp-edged, reflected, axial ribs (about 25 on last whorl) which may form thick, corrugated varices randomly. Between ribs and varices are equidistant spiral threads overlain by cancellate sculpture of finer axial and spiral threads. Umbilicus largely filled by rib ends. White. Habitat: coral sand offshore and beached. Distribution: Gulf of Oman, Masirah Island
