Description

Shell subtrigonal, thick, inflated; anterior end rounded; posterior end pointed. Smooth or with weak commarginal striae. Periostracum brown. Lunule small, deeply impressed. Length to 10 mm.
Similar to N. mexicana in outline, but N. mexicana has a thin hinge plate with delicate teeth, whereas N. brunnea has a wide hinge plate with large teeth.
Near the Pribiloff Islands, Bering Sea (54.9°N) [USNM], to Cascadia Plain, Oregon (45°N) [LACM], in 2,500 - 3,700 m.
