Shell short, inflated. Sculpture of sharp, heavy commarginal ribs becoming obsolete on posterior slope. Rostrum broad, pointed. Periostracum shiny, iridescent. Escutcheon wide, deep, less clearly demarcated than in N. penderi. Length to 20 mm.
The relationship of this species to the Panamic N. (J.) callimene (Dall, 1908) merits further investigation.
Fort Bragg, California (39.5°N) [CAS], to Isla Cedros, Baja California (28.2°N) [CAS], in 10 - 100 m. Reported as early as the Oligocene in northwest America.
