Description

Species in this group (Asperiscala) are broadly pyramidal, with the umbilicus widely open. There are numerous spiral lines between the costae. This species attains a maximum size of only 4mm and has been found intertidally in Natal, South Africa. It is white, with about 4 teleoconch whorls and 10-13 slightly reflected costae per whorl. The costae are peaked. There are about 20 spiral lines per whorl and the suture is narrowly open. The umbilicus is widely open and the aperture is oval. There are about 4.5 protoconch whorls. There are small peaks on the shoulders of the white costae. The aperture is oval and the operculum is yellowish-brown. E. spyridion is the only member of this subgenus found in South Africa.
