Description

Epitonium malcomensis: 10mm. Broadly high spired with smooth, glossy protoconch of about 3 whorls. Later spire whorls unconnected and almost hidden under broad, strongly reflected, sinuously oblique ribs (about 10-16 on last whorl) which curl inwardly at edges and form claw-like extensions at sutures where they also join each other; fine, crowded, spiral threads between ribs. Umbilicus filled in by rib ends. White. Habitat: offshore. Distribution: Gulf of Oman.

Epitonium (Epitonium) malcomensis (Melvill, 1898) (Fig. 196) This species has been found in the Persian Gulf and reaches a maximum size of about 9mm. While the type speel- men is broken, it appears to have about 5 teleoconch whorls. The costae are strongly reflected with prominent peaks on the costae. The suture is narrowly open. E. malcomensis can be separated from E. bouryl by the peaked costae which are strongly reflected.
