Description

Massachussets to Texas in range, this species is easily distinguishable by its two brownish spiral bands which may merge. The largest, most colorful ones are found along the New Jersey coast. Usually possessing one or more white varices, this variable shallow water species runs to about 20mm. A spiral thread or ridge is generally present on the base of the body whorl. Costae thin and numerous on the early whorls, with the characteristic thickened lip. Angle to spire varies from 35 to 40 degrees. Suture well defined and very deep.
