Description

Like the two previous species in general shell features but without colour markings; small. Recognizable by a nick on the umbilical side of the columella and by another between the origin of the outer lip and the wall of the last whorl.

Other characters
The spire is low, deep sutures giving it a moderately stepped profile. The notch on the columella marks the end of a groove which extends into the umbilicus. Buff. Up to 8 mm high, 8-9 mm broad; last whorl occupies 80-90% of shell height, aperture 75-80%.
The animal resembles that of other Euspira species but is cream, with the posterior edge of the propodium brown.
E. montagui is not found intertidaliy but may be dredged on soft bottoms 15-200 m deep, usually on finer sediments than either nitida or catena. It is a more northern species than those and most records from around the British Isles are northern. It also occurs off Northern Ireland, in the Celtic Sea, and south to the Mediterranean, though at greater depths. The egg collar is similar in dimensions to that of E. nitida but may be dis¬tinguished from that by the fact that the egg capsules in it lie in several planes.
