Calagrassor bacciballus n. sp. Calagrassor sp. 1 - Kantor et al. 2013: 2179, fig 1(13), fig. 2(5), fig. 3(3), TYPE MATERIAL - Holotype MNHN IM 2007-32940 (h 13.3 mm) and 2 paratypes MNHN. TYPE LOCALITY - Philippines, Bohol Sea, 9°21'N, 124°09'E, 1764 m. PANGLAO 2005: stn CP2356. MATERIAL EXAMINED -Philippines. PANGLAO 2005: stn CP2356,9°21'N, 124°09'E, 1764 m, 1 lv (holotype MNHN IM-2007-32940; Figure 103). - Stn CP2357,09°20'N, 124°03'E, 1760-1762 m, 2 lv (paratypes MNHN IM 2000-27056). A total of 2 lots (3 specimens).
DISTRIBUTION-Known only from the type material; alive in 1762-1764 m.
DESCRIPTION - Shell small for genus, up to 13.3 mm, thin but solid, white. Shape broadly fusiform with moderately high spire, siphonal canal short. Apex and protoconch eroded in all studied specimens. Remaining teleoconch whorls 5 in number, convex. Suture distinct; subsuturally weakly tabulated, forming narrow ramp perpendicular to shellaxis. First 2.5 remaining whorls eroded, spiral sculpture not preserved. Third remaining whorl with 7 fine spiral cords, with eighth cord partly concealed under suture of subsequent whorl; spiral cords with flattened top and steep sides, forming rectangular profile; interspaces as width as spiral cords or slightly wider. Interspaces increasing slightly in width along next whorl. Penultimate whorl with 8 fine spiral cords, subsutural cord finer, a ninth spiral cord partly concealed under suture of subsequent whorl around last part of penultimate whorl. Last whorl with about 24 fine spiral cords, subsutural cord finer; interspaces variable, 3 or 4 adapical interspaces wide, remaining interspaces slightly narrower than spiral cords. Traces of weak axial waves visible on last part of second and first part of third whorl, estimated about 22 in number. Last half of third whorl with 8 weak axial folds on adapical portion of whorl. Further whorls without axial sculpture. Incremental lines obscure, expressed as fine axial lamellae of periostracum only; forming a minute but sharp line in a few specimens; subsuturally slightly bent forwards to prosocline shape, forming concave outline in outer lip when seen from above. Aperture oval, adapically forming a straight, perpendicular border where conected to preceeding whorl; columella concave, callus smooth, glossy. Outer lip thin, slightly wavy in accordance with exterior sculpture. Siphonal canal short, wide, open, tip slightly curved to dorsal side. Operculum corneus, pale brown, semi-oval, nucleus terminal. Periostracum pale brown, rather velvety, on crests of spiral sculpture eroded by sediment and glossy, inside interspaces consisting of fine incremental lamellae.
REMARKS - Calagrassor bacciballus n. sp. is characterized by its rather broad fusiform shape and moderately high spire, the fine spiral sculpture, the absence of axial sculpture (with the exception of some fine traces on the upper spire whorls), the narrow subsutural tabulation perpendicular to the coiling axis easily visible in the outer lip, in combination with the incremental lines prosocline along the subsutural slope, the short but pronounced siphonal canal and the small adult size. Calagrassor sp. 3 differs from C. bacciballus n. sp. by its more slender shape with slightly narrower aperture, the narrower subsutural tabulation, and the slightly more numerous spiral cords. Calagrassor aldermenensis differs from C. bacciballus n. sp. in the broader protoconch (based on eroded specimens), the typically wider spiral cords with narrower interspaces, the presence of axial sculpture on at least the upper part of the spire, the weakly curved columella (vs. rather concave), the semi-oval aperture weakly constricted adapically, the incremental lines straight along the subsutural slope, and the shorter siphonal canal. ETYMOLOGY-Latin bacciballus (adjective), little fatty, in reference to the small, broad shell, which is accentuated by the decollate apex.
