Description

Large, dilated, compressed behind, covered with a dark olive-brown shining periostracum, with a few scattered long hairs set in a white calcareous disc; anterior side with a small ribbed expansion under the umbo, the margin of which bears from two to five small teeth; these teeth vary in size and number; anterior adductor scar present; interior bluish-white. Length 94 mm, height 56 mm, section 38 mm. Type locality: Western Australia.
LOG. : Beachport to Fremantle. S.W.A, S.A, Tas, Vict. Remarks: This is the large '' Port Melbourne Mussel'' which is preserved in bottles and sold for food in all Australian States.
