Description

Circular, with subequal auricles, compressed, solid, light to dark brown to black, with stout com-marginal flat scales; interior nacre thick and variably colored from silver to green to blue to gray-black. Native to the Indo-Pacific, introduced to Florida. Length 60 mm (to 300 mm).

Pinctada margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758)
15-140 mm. Gray-green color, white radial rays. Appressed and sometimes extended lamellae cover the surface. (140 mm) Distribution: Uncommon; All régions. Notes: The name means 'bearer of pearls.'
