Texadina sphinctostoma (Abbott and Ladd, 1951) Narrowmouth Hydrobe
Distribution: Mississippi to Texas to Quintana Roo. Size: 3 mm
Description: Color translucent grayish-white; shape elongate-conic to fusiform; sculpture smooth with microscopic, irregular axial growth lines; with 5 to 7 convex whorls; moderately impressed suture with a darker band just below the suture; nuclear whorls almost indistinguishable from teleoconch; body whorl globose at center and tapering anteriorly; aperture oval to round, askew, and constricted; anomphalous; operculum size and shape of aperture smooth, translucent, and paucispiral. Habitat: Soft mud in shallow, low-salinity bays at depths from 0 to 4 m (13 ft). Remarks: Lives in association with Rangia cuneata (Gray, 1831). Most commonly seen hydrobiid on the Texas coast.
