Description

Caecum circumvolutum Folin, 1867
Distribution: North Carolina to Florida, Texas; West Indies. Size: 2 to 4 mm
Description: Color glassy translucent white; shape toothlike or tusklike, cylindri¬cal, slightly arched; sculpture smooth; aperture with a bulbous varix of fine spiral ridges; mucro triangular when looked at from the side; at high magnification, growth increments can be seen.
Habitat: Calcareous environments. In Texas found at Stetson Bank and FGB. Depth range 2 to 40 m (7 to 130 ft).
Remarks: When alive, the shell is almost transparent but covered with a brownish periostracum. See Ode (1988b).
