Shell small (up to 4.9 mm, N = 6), elongately conical, rather stout.
Protoconch of non-planktotrophic larval type; of 1 1/4 convex whorls; transition to teleoconch abrupt with weakly sinuous, non-thickened margin. Teleoconch: of 4 1/2 to 6 whorls; adapical spire whorls flat-sided, biangulate, respectively below and above sutures ; penultimate whorl angulate below suture; last whorl weakly convex, moderately contracted below peri¬phery ; sutures weakly and rather irregularly undulated, very weakly impressed. Axial sculpture of moderately prominent, narrow, distantly spaced ribs, the latter orthocline to weakly prosocline on adapical spire whorls and slightly opisthodine on last whorl; axial ribs gradually slightly more prominent on abapical spire whorls and on adapical half of last whorl; axial ribs very weak to almost absent on abapical half of last whorl. Spiral sculpture of moderately prominent, narrow, distantly spaced ribs, equally prominent as axial ribs and forming weak, rounded nodules where crossing the latter. Microsculpture of typical axial threads in interspaces between spiral ribs. Aperture ovate ; inner lip thin, weakly expanded with a weak swelling near transition to short, deep and narrow anterior channel; posterior channel absent; outer lip thin internally with moderately prominent, elongated ridges, the latter corresponding to spiral ribs on moderately prominent, rather narrow external varix ; outer lip weakly opisthodine in profile. Shell colour: white.

As: Isselia hiloense (Pilsbry and Vanatta, 1908).
Length, 3 mm; diameter, 1.5 mm. Shell: conic-ovate; with beaded axial ribs; white. Spire: protoconch of one and one-half glistening white, mamillate whorls; teleoconch of three to five rather straight-sided whorls; suture deep, channeled. Aperture: ovate; anterior canal shallow, short, straight; columella glazed and with a fasciole; outer lip simple. Sculpture: reticulate — fine axial ribs beaded where they are crossed by spiral threads. Color: white.
These rissoids are common on fringing reefs, and shells occasionally occur in sediments to depths of 8 m.
I. hiloense was described from the Hawaiian Islands and also occurs at Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean (Tomlin, 1935a as Bittium hiloense).
These shells superficially resemble those of Merelina but are distinguished by the siphonal canal.
