Description

Type material.
Holotype in MNHN (Figs.55-56), 19.8 mm x 13.2 mm 2 para-types CFB (20 mm x 13.3 mm, 19.2 mm x 12.6 mm), from the type locality (old collection, labeled "Berbera"). Type locality.
Berbera, north coast of Somalia. Other material examined.
CFB: two specimens labeled "Arabian Sea", a specimen labeled "Muscat" (Figs. 57-58).
NHM: two specimens on a plate, with the name of "G. obtusa Sby" and labeled "Berbera", a specimen under the same name, labeled "Karachi" (Coll. Lucas).
Description.
Squat, pear-shaped and inflated shell, rounded shoulder, spire very low, protoconch small and low, angular axial ribs on the last whorl, narrow aperture, labrum strongly thickened with labial teeth almost obsolete, outer edge of the labrum smooth and stepped, anal canal weakly incised, notched siphonal canal, four low columellar folds, the upper two subhorizontal, the following suboblique and slightly sinuous, the inferior oblique and slightly sinuous.
Background color creamy white, 16 spiral rows of brown black dots on the last whorl, rather spaced apart, wide interrupted brown band below the shoulder. Labrum weakly stained of brown.

Variability.
8 specimens examined "Berbera" the "Arabian Sea" and "Karachi" are extremely homogeneous, and suggest a weakly variable species. The specimen of "Muscat" diverges slightly by a little more slender and less pear-shaped silhouette, but shares all other distinctive features of the species and there is no doubt on its identity. Given the general shape of the shell and the relatively large size of its black dots, it is possible that the reference made by MELVILL & STANDEN (1901: 424) of the presence of a Glabella faba in the Gulf of Oman (37 fms) refers to that form.

Range.
The species seems to have a wide range, from the north coast of Somalia to the Pakistani coast, that is to say in all the Western Arabia Sea.
Bathymetry has to be confirmed, however the old Berbera catches suggest that it can be found in shallow water, and its absence from dredgings done in the area suggests that it is confined to the subtidal zone, i.e. above 40-50 m. Remarks.
While sharing with the G. faba Linnaeus group a pattern of large dark scattered spots, G. rotunda sp. nov. shares many morphological features with G. mirabilis, including an inflated shape, weak labial teeth and axial ribs all over the shell, which probably show a close relationship with this species.
