Shell small, thin, chestnut brown in colour, encircled with a white band on the periphery, neritiform; surface smooth except for faint growth lines ; whorls 3, rapidly increasing ; spire not elevated, nucleus polished; body whorl very large, inflated; aperture wide, semilunate in shape, outer and basal margins simple and sharp; columellar margin straight, thickened ; upper ends of columellar and outer margins approximate and united by a thin glaze of callus, forming a point; umbilicus wide; parietal wall bordered by a strong keel; operculum ovate, thin and paucispiral. Length 1.8 mm., breadth 2.6 mm.
Type locality: Akkeshi Bay, Hokkaido.
Remarks: This species resembles Stenotis laxata A. Adams in the general features, but may be distinguished from the latter in having the shell with narrower umbilicus and the straight columellar margin, and the aperture is not so dilated downwardly. I take pleasure in naming this for Prof. Tohru Uchida who is the director of the Akkeshi Marine Biological Laboratory of the Hokkaido University.
