Description

Angiola lineata: Planaxis lineatus: Shell small, solid, acuminate, with slightly convex whorls, the sculpture consisting of rather widely spaced spiral grooves, which are much more distinctly marked on the upper spire and base and which are often wanting elsewhere on the shell. Aperture oval; outer lip very thick, suddenly and briefly deflected above; columella reflexed into a lip below; basal notch round. Color generally whitish or yellowish, with close, revolving brown bands, sometimes uniform yellowish. Length, 7; diameter, 3.5 mm.

Distribution: Florida, Texas; Brazil; Bermuda. Size: 6 mm
Description: Color gray to yellowish with reddish-brown spiral bands; shape elongate-conic; sculpture smooth, shell thick, somewhat glossy; spire tapered with 4 or 5 spiral cords; whorls slightly convex with spiral bands of brown; aperture ovate and slightly flared, thickened outer lip has brown markings on edge that correspond with brown spiral bands that appear like ridged teeth on outer lip; siphonal canal short; anomphalous. Habitat: Found among broken shells and small rocks, from midtide line to a few feet. Remarks: This small shell is found abundantly in sheltered smooth water. In Texas found in beach drift at Port Aransas. See Abbott (1974); Rehder (1981). Synonym: Planaxis lineata (da Costa, 1778).
