This species differs from Mitrella parvicosta in its lack of distinct axial sculpture, the position and number of denticles in the inner lip, the rim of merged denticles on the columella, the less shouldered whorls and the larger adult size. Mitrella fineti Poppe & Tagaro, 2010 differs in having a multispiral protoconch and more shouldered whorls.
