Description

Shell of minute size for genus, adult size up to 1.9 mm; fusiform, bulbously elongate. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, -1.4 smooth whorls. Teleoconch of 2.75 whorls. Axial sculpture absent. Spiral sculp¬ture of basal cords, sloping strongly downwards, ventrally ranging to adapical edge of columella. Outer lip slightly thickened, with weak rim, smooth. Inner lip smooth. Columellar callus absent. Parietal callus absent. Columella smooth. Siphonal canal short, open, straight. Teleoconch whorls translucent, almost transparent, pale white in colour, with thin white band at mid-whorl. Protoconch white. Aperture and columella white. Holotype height 1.9 mm.

Interchangeable taxa

Zemitrella epicroca n. sp. is unique in the smooth, almost transparent shell, the sloping basal cords and the thin white band at mid whorl. The species displays some affinities with Z. finlayi Powell, 1933 and Z. benthicola Dell, 1956, but the generic placement is considered to be only tentative.
