Funiscala maxwelli: Off Otago Heads, 50 fathoms (type); Foveaux Strait, 15 fathoms.
Shell small, solid, with an attenuated spire, dull-white, with a densely spirally striated surface, sculptured with numerous rather weak axial ribs, 15 to 16 per whorl, stopped abruptly at the top of the aperture by a heavy spiral basal disc. Suture impressed but not scalloped. Aperture oval, with a thin edge, but strengthened externally by a heavy spiraliy striated varix; former varices are disposed irregularly over the spire.
Height 7.8 mm., width 2.7 mm.
