Description: Color white, irregular light brown band toward the top of teleoconch whorls of fresh specimens; shape conic; sculpture simple with connected rows of flat-sided axial costae; 11 convex, attached whorls; a varix sometimes develops on the body whorl; occasionally more than 1 varix produced, but they are usually restricted to the body whorl; suture distinct; aperture holostomatous; outer lip slightly reflected and thickened. Habitat: Just offshore. Depth range 0 to 9 m (30 ft).
Tunnell, J.W. , Andrews, J. , Barrera, N.C. & Moretzsohn, F., 2010. Encyclopedia of Texas seashells.
A common shell, found on the beaches from Florida through the West Indies. About half an inch long, 7-9 costae, low rounded and continuous, without hooks. No spiral sculpture. No basal ridge. Angle to spire variable, around 30 degrees. May have a thickened outer lip.
It differs from E. albidum by having fewer, more cord-like costae per whorl, rather than numerous blade-like costae and by the closed sutures. It does not have the basal ridge of G. lamellosa and is generally smaller.
