Up to an inch, but mostly only about half an inch, occidentale Nyst, 1871, is found from southern Florida through the Caribbean south to Brazil. It is shiny white, chubby with an angle of 35 to 40 degrees from the spire. The costae are thin and slightly reflected and are more numerous on earlier whorls than on the final whorl. 12-15 on that whorl. The whorls are flattened with pointed costae. No spiral sculpture. Differs from E. krebsii by being somewhat narrower, having flattened shoulders and exhibiting a much smaller umbilical opening. Most commonly found around Puerto Rico. We have reproduced de Boury's photograph of the the specimen he labelled "cf. type"
