Description

Epitonium (Hirtoscala) ferussacii (Audouin, 1816) (Fig. 201) While the broken holotype is only 1.9mm, the adult shell probably reaches a maximum size of 5mm or more. It was found in the Red Sea The costae are thickened and erect with a low angle below the suture. They are very widely spaced. The sutures and presumably the umbilicus are closed. The 2 protoconch whorls are smooth. The combination of the slender shell, thick, widely spaced costae with the angle below the suture should permit one to identify undamaged examples of this species.
