Description

Obliquely oval, posterior end with nearly vertical truncation, white with thin brownish perios-tracum, glossy with very weak commarginal ridges crossed by faint radial striae; interior thinly nacreous, margin minutely denticulate. Florida Keys, Bahamas, Caribbean Central America, South America (Colombia). Length < 2 mm.

Nucula calcicola Moore, 1977 Nuculidae Reef Nut Clam Distribution: Texas, Florida; Caribbean; Central and South America. Size: Up to 1.9 mm (1/12 in). Description: Color translucent white with brownish periostracum; shape suboval; sculpture with weak commarginal striae crossed by fine radial striae; interior ventral margin minutely denticulate; anterior end rounded; posterior end truncate; anterior hinge plate broad and widest between last 2 teeth; posterior hinge plate wide, but shorter than anterior hinge. Habitat: Calcareous-type habitats at depths from 1 to 11 m (3 to 36 ft). Remarks: Specimen in photograph from HMNS; specimen in collection is listed as N. crenulata.
