Description

This is a wide to very wide species (illustrated specimens W/L = 0.37 to 0.47; S/L = 0.39 to 0.45) that has several forms differing in color, the zephyrina form the most different and quite possibly a different species . The basic form shown is described here: Very wide with the spire about 0.4 times the shell length with about 5 slightly convex teleoconch whorls. Dorsal notch is apparent. The suture between spire whorls is not prominent on the last whorls, more prominent on early whorls due to the shoulder being relatively longer. The penultimate whorl has 5 slightly convex, spiral cords that are seen as separated by pitted spiral grooves. Very fine axial riblets are apparent with some magnification and node the cords. The outer lip is convex at the shoulder, almost straight centrally and convex at the anterior, broadly curving into the anterior canal. The aperture is pointed at the posterior and gradually widens. The posterior canal is not callused to reduce its depth or to define the canal. The columella is straight with 5 significant, convex folds ending well inside the wide columellar callus in the fold area. At the anterior tip the columellar callus is abruptly shorter with a depression between it and the fasciole. Exterior cords on the base roughly coincide with the columellar folds. The shell exterior color is cream-white with a brown band starting slightly above the periphery and gradually fading in the anterior direction. There are white blotches and hazy streaks of white lines. The aperture interior has colors similar to the exterior with a second band at the anterior end.
