Shell up to 35.0 mm in length, elongate-fusiform, spire pointed, teleoconch of 9-10 convex, subangulate whorls, protoconch of 2-2.5 glassy-brown, embryonic whorls. Post-embryonic whorls with 3-4 spiral cords, penultimate whorl with 3-5 cords and body whorl with 12-17 cords; the cords are variable, sometimes narrow and angulate or lower and closer set, more rounded and separated by a groove. Interspaces are deep or shallow, cancellated with numerous, finely incised axial grooves which are either confined to interspaces or override cords, and smaller, intermediate spiral threads are occasionally present. Aperture longer than the spire, narrow, smooth within, outer lip thickened and bluntly crenulate on edge, columella with 5-6 oblique folds. Variable in color but usually grayish-white and marbled with irregular, dark greenish-brown axial streaks and blotches, spiral ridges lined with interrupted orange-brown or reddish-brown spiral lines, edge of outer lip white, interior of aperture dark grayish-brown. Periostracum thin and brown.
