Original Description: "Testa tenuissima, planulata, paulo inaequivalvis, albida, haud nitida, concentrice valde plicata, plicis utrinque attenuatis, undique confertim et tenuiter lirata. Auriculae inaequales, anticis majoribus, antica valvae dextrae liris gracilibus paucis squamulatis ornata, inferne profunde sinuata." (fide E. A. Smith, 1885)
Additional Description: Shell fragile, oblique, higher than wide, inequilateral and semi-transparent. Both valves are undulated evenly and covered with numerous fine radial lirae. Left valve somewhat more convex than right. Hinge line straight. Auricles small and subequal. Byssal notch deep with active ctenolium. Size: Normal adult size range is 25 to 30 mm.

Reported from the Northern Atlantic to the Antarctic, and just into the Indian Ocean.
Habitat: Deep water, on fine muddy bottoms.
