Taxonomy

The generic placing of this species is purely provisional. Such featureless shells by their very nature have few differentiating characters. The non-thickened peristome is more in keeping with the Liotiidae than with the Rissoidae, but until the anatomical characters are known, the species seems best placed in the nearest Liotiid genus. It does not appear to be closely related to any other New Zealand species.

Description

Shell large for genus, turbinate, body whorl globose, fragile, white, with a wide oblique umbilical chink. Height of spire almost equal to that of aperture. Whorls 4, including a small protoconch of 1,5 smooth whorls. The only sculpture consists of irregular obscure spiral grooves and irregular growth lines. Surface of shell polished. Aperture subcircular, peristome entire but parietal lip very thin. Outer lip not thickened. Columella thin but expanded. There is a moderately wide, crescentic umbilical chink. Height, 2,4 mm.; diameter, 1,9 mm.
