Description

Testa parva, solidiuscula, albida, fascia rubrofusca cincta; anf. 15 (?), planulatis, lineis 5 elevatis decurrentibus, supra (2 exceptis) obsoletis, et lineis elevatis longitudinalibus pluribus, intersectionibus nodiferis instructis; anf. [6] ultimo plica fusca cincto; columella uniplicata, plica decurrente; canali brevi. Div. 15°; aperturae long. .08 poll.; long. tot. .08 poll. ? [sic]; lat. .13 poll.

Distribution: Massachusetts to West Indies; Texas; Brazil. Size: 12 to 18 mm
Description: Color of teleoconch uniformly brown, protoconch light brown; shape elongate-conic, slender; sculpture on teleoconch of spiral threads crossed by axial ribs, producing a beaded latticelike appearance with 2 spiral beaded ribs on postnuclear whorl and 3 on subsequent whorls; shell with 10 to 14 whorls; suture distinct; aperture subcircular, thin outer lip; short siphonal canal; operculum corneous.
Habitat: In shelly sand along shoreline to depths of approximately 65 m (213 ft). Remarks: Beads on spiral cords of the genus Retilaskeya are smaller than on Cerithiopsis. Complete specimens with protoconchs are rare. See Andrews (1977); Ode (1989c). Synonym: C emersoni znct. non C. B. Adams, 1839.
