Description

Shell size typical for genus, adult size up to 11.0 mm; fusiform, elongate. Suture impressed. Protoconch multispiral, two smooth whorls. Teleoconch of 5.5 whorls. Axial sculpture on early whorls of weak, equally spaced ribs; ribs more prominent on later whorls, but becoming obsolete on last half of body whorl. Spiral sculpture of basal cords, ventrally ranging to mid parietal height. Outer lip scarcely thickened, smooth, bearing only continuation of basal cords. Inner lip weakly denticulate, with eight to ten very weak denticles, often clearly visble only at abapical end. Columellar callus marked by distinct rim along siphonal canal. Parietal callus weak. Columella smooth. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch whorls off-white to cream in colour, with beige/brown subsutural band. Protoconch white, semitranslucent. Aperture and columella white to off-white. Holotype height 10.0 mm.

Interchangeable taxa

This species was initially confused by the authors with Indomitrella haziersensis Drivas & Jay, 1990, described from Reunion. After examining the holotype (MNHN IM-2000-6436), we conclude that these represent two separate but related species. The new species differs from I. haziersensis in possessing fewer teleoconch whorls (5.5 vs 6 in I. haziersensis), unshouldered whorls, a less bulbous protoconch, and subsutural banding (I. haziersensis is uniformly cream), and in lacking a subsutural groove.
