The more similar species is Granulina mauretanica Gofas, 1992 but it is different in the coloration of the animal.
G. pierrepineaui Pin & Boyer, 1995, has a bigger shell, more solid, and the colour of the animal is yellowish with evident dark spots on the external part of the mantle, and brownish clots on the metapodium.
The animal of G. parilis Gofas & Fernandes, 1988 from Sao Tome, has a black external mantle, and yellow flecks and orange SpOtS on the toot and the siphon.
G. ocarina Fernandes, 1987 from Cape Verde Islands has the dark colour of the mantle variable from being arranged in dark bands (as it was represented in the original description) to covering the entire external part of the mantle (personal observation).
G. africana Gofas, 1992 is not known by its soft parts but its shell is larger than G. ghanensis being more pointed posteriorly

Shell small, ovoid, relatively solid, smooth and brilliant, 1.7 -1.9 mm long. Its greater diameter is anteroposterior; the wider dimension is closer to the posterior end of the shell, the anterior part is rather tapering. Body whorl rather translucent, aperture narrow, curved. Outer lip thickened externally, with about 12-15 small denticles on the inner side. Columella with about 5 small denticles on the anterior part, the anterior one being the larger.
Animal with the food translucent, elongate and pointed posteriorly; metapodium is entirely covered by small, garnet spots; the central part of the foot is creamy coloured. The siphon is translucent with similar spots. The tentacles are white translucent with transversal milky-white bands, which are wider towards the end. External mantle almost black on the border and creamy-orange on the rest, lighter towards the body, with small uncoloured pustules. Internal soft parts appear as whitish with pink spots when observed throughout the shell. Habitat. Between 5 6 metres deep, on rocks with small algae and sand.
