Description

Shell moderately large in size, fusiform, having two color tones with yellowish white spire and basal area and dark gray middle zone. Exposed protoconch mamillate. Spire sharply raised, higher than aperture length, with wide subsutural bands. In most cases, except interspace between last one or two subsutural bands present many spiral ridges, but in some cases with no ridges. Middle zone separated by a groove under the subsutural band posteriorly and ancillid groove anteriorly. Fasciolar band separated by a fasciolar groove posteriorly and by a shallow furrow from basal zone anteriorly. Columellar pillar twisted with 4-5 low folds. Aperture rather narrow, white within. Outer lip thin, simple. Siphonal canal deep. Length: 24.0 mm; Width 8.5 mm; Aperture 11.4 mm.

Distribution

Australia. Off Sydney, N.S.W., 175 m deep.

Interchangeable taxa

This new species resembles Amalda (Alcospira) gaza (Iredale 1924), but differs in having elogate spire without depression indicating suture found in A. gaza and deeper ancillid groove.
