The type locality is Woolgoolga, north coast of New South Wales, where the species is probably a migrant from the more northern Solanderian Province. It is actually one of the commonest species on the Queensland coast, both on the reef and the mainland, localities ranging from the Capricorn Group to Port Moresby in New Guinea. West of Torres Strait there is some variation, and specimens from Darwin are now designated as a separate race. The specimen here figured is from Heron I. in the Capricorn Group, collected by J. Laseron, and 3-8 mm in length.
P. allanae is one of several species which in the past have been labelled as Rissoina exasperata Souverbie, a New Caledonian species of uncertain identity. Hedley (1899, p. 418, Fig. 10) doubtfully recorded exasperata from Funafuti, and in view of the uncertainty published a good figure and description, at the same time extending the range to the Queensland coast, and synonymizing under exasperata, R. quasittus Melvill & Standen (1897, p. 308, Plate 11, Fig. 65), also from New Caledonia. However, none of the Queensland shells so far examined agrees with Hedley's figure and description of the Funafuti shell, so whether that is the true exasperata or not is outside the scope of this paper. It seems far better to expunge exasperata from the Australian list.
P. allanae is remarkably constant throughout its range, and no difference can be detected between specimens from the type locality and from Queensland, except a little in size, some specimens ranging to a little over 4 mm in length.

Shell elongated, conical, solid, pure white. Whorls 8, including protoconch, the first dome-shaped, the remainder rounded, sutures impressed. The first two whorls (protoconch) are smooth, the sculpture on the remainder consisting of well-defined sharp ribs, about 14 to a whorl, crossed at regular intervals by 4 to 5 sharp radial keels, elevated to points where they cross the transverse ribs, producing a regular, square cancellation, which persists right to the base. Aperture arcuate, angled posteriorly, expanded anteriorly, peristome complete, thickened, rounded on the outer margin, arched on inner margin. Length 5 mm.
Locality.—Woolgoolga, fairly common on the beach (type).
The regular and beautiful cancellation at once separates this from all other New South Wales species, but it would not be surprising to find its range extended north into
Queensland. I have much pleasure in naming it after Miss Joyce Allan, Conchologist at the Australian Museum.
