Description

Type Material: Holotype - BM(NH). Type Locality: Not listed in description.
Original Description: "T. subtrigona, subcompressa, radiatim striata, aequivalvi; auriculis radiatum sulcatus, anticis paululum majoribus; cardine oblique plicato; costis octo, crassis, rotundatis, nodulosis, interne ad marginem plicatis; colore rufo, intus nebuloso, extus angulatim maculato. Long. 1.35; lat. 0.50.; alt. 1.46.; poll." (fide G. B. Sowerby II, 1842)
Additional Description: "Subtriangular, rather compressed, with radiating striae, equivalve; ears radiately sulcated, the posterior slightly the larger; hinge obliquely plicated; red with angular spots, (clouded inside) and eight thick rounded and nodulous ribs which are internally plicated at the margin."

Size: Normal adult size range is 40 to 60 mm. Distribution: Throughout the Indian Ocean from the eastern coast of South Africa to Thailand.
Habitat: Intertidal to sublittoral zones, on sandy bottoms with coral rubble.
