Description

Mirapecten yaroni Dijkstra & Knudsen, 1998
Mirapecten rastellum of authors non Lamarck, 1819
Yaron's Scallop Endemic
14-57 mm. RV nine ribs somewhat angular. Scales strong at the top edge of the ears and on the lateral ribs, weak and narrow on medial ribs. LV eight rounded, undulating ribs. No scales at the top of the ears. Scales strong and broad on ribs, weaker on laterals. Many different colors and patterns of different colors on the same shell: red, pink, brownish-purple, orange, yellow, and white. Interior brightly colored. (45 mm) Distribution: Common in the Gulf of Aqaba, South Sinai, and around reefs from Hurghada south. Very rare in the Gulf of Suez.
