Description

Shell to 36.0 mm in length, fusiform-elongate to elongate-ovate, teleoconch of 6-8 convex whorls, protoconch of 3.54.0 conical, glassy, dark rose or lilac embryonic whorls. Post-embryonic whorls with 4-5 spiral rows of laterally elongated granules, penultimate whorl with 4-7 moderately elevated spiral cords, cords angulate or rounded on summits, body whorl with 12-17 spiral cords and 3-4 oblique cords on the siphonal fasciole; interspaces of spiral cords either narrow and plain or wider and sculptured with 1-2 intermediate, fine spiral threads. Longitudinal sculpture consists of close-set or wide-spaced, shallow or deep axial grooves, grooves occasionally override spiral cords and render these granulose. Aperture equal in height or shorter than the spire, smooth within, outer lip crimped, columella with 4-6 prominent folds. White to cream in color, occasionally suffused with pink, most individuals ornamented with orange to orange-brown spots upon the spiral cords, spots occasionally confluent, some specimens with faint, irregular, rose-colored axial streaks or blotches on the body whorl, columella white or lilac.

Interchangeable taxa

The species is superficially similar to Domiporta circula (Kiener) but differs in the more elevated, angulate cords and absence of a net-like sculpture in interspaces. In addition the radulae of the two species differ generically.
