Shell solid, with spiral cords and axial ribs. Protoconch with about 1,25 whorl or slightly less; nucleus of 150 µm and a diameter of about 380 µm. With 2 spiral cords on the first teleoconch whorl, 3 on the second and the third, 4 on the penultimate and 8 on the upper part of the last whorl, followed by 4-5 small and narrowly spaced ones on the base. The aperture is ovoid, with a deep siphonal canal below and no internal nodules; external part of the outer lip with about 7 nodes, which are the terminations of the spiral cords. Peristome sharp. Columella curved, with a thickened callus. The microsculpture is formed by very small axial striae which do not cross the spiral cords. Holotype, 4.3 mm high; the shell from Florida measures 3.8 mm.

Shell small (up to 4.3 mm, N = 11), broadly to very broadly conical, very stout. Protoconch small, of non-planktotrophic larval type, of 1 whorl; nucleus globose, slightly tilted : transition to teleoconch rather gradual. Teleoconch : of about 5 whorls, with weakly undulated, moderately impressed sutures; adapical spire whorls almost flat-sided, weakly angulate below and above sutures ; subsequent spire whorls weakly convex; last whorl weakly convex and weakly contracted near shell base. Sculpture of prominent, moderately to very wide, rounded, almost orthocline axial ribs with equal to narrower, deep interspaces; axial ribs on last whorl gradually less prominent on abapical half; axial ribs intersected by prominent, rather distantly spaced, narrow and sharp spiral ribs, forming very prominent, rounded nodules on intersecting points. Microsculpture of irregular, densely spaced axial threads in interspaces between axial and spiral ribs. Aperture : subquadrangular; columellar side strongly angulate ; inner lip very thin, weakly thickened near transition to very narrow, very short and deep anterior channel; outer lip thin internally, with prominent, rather deep, very oblique, triangular to parallel-sided posterior channel, forming a prominent notch on outer lip ; outer lip externally with a very prominent, moderately wide varix, the latter bearing about 9 prominent spiral ribs.

The original description by Sleurs (1996) is quite detailed and includes SEM photographs. The paucispiral protoconch differentiates this species from S. aberrans.

Stosicia houbricki sp. nov. strongly resembles S. aberrans but differs
(1) in having a non-planktotrophic protoconch which is also less conical,
(2) in having a moderately prominent posterior notch in the outer lip and
(3) in having a more prominent and wider external varix.
