AS Simplicifusus noguchii Habe & Masuda Sci. Rep. Nat. Hist. Mus. Tokai Univ. (4): 120-121(E), 121(J), P1.2(f). 1990 Simplicifusus noguchii n. sp. (Pl. II, Figs. 9-11) Shell rather small for the Japanese fusoid species, elongated fusiform in shape, unicolorly white, covered with the light yellowish velvety periostracum. Spire consists of 9 whorls. Protoconch of about two whorls smooth and globular. Teleoconch of 7 to 8 whorls conically elevated. Each whorl rather convex with distinctly constricted suture and with about 10 narrow. longitudinal ribs and 4 distinct spiral cords bearing the nodules on the longitudinal ribs and weak spiral threads all over. Body whorl narrow and high, about two thirds of shell height. Siphonal beak long and curved. Aperture ovate, narrowing to the long siphonal canal. Mesurements: Height 49.0mm and breadth 16.2mm, (Holotype specimen, National Science Museum, Tokyo, NSMT-Mo 66252, from Enshu-nada) Height 39.4mm and breadth 13.6mm, (Paratype specimen No. 1, National Science Museum, Tokyo, NSMT-Mo 66253, from Tosa Bay) Height 43.7mm and breadth 13.3mm, (Paratype specimen No. 2, Natural History Museum Tokai Univ., HN-1300, from Tosa Bay) Type locality: Enshunada, on the Pacific side of Central Honshu, Japan. Distribution: Sagami Bay, Honshu to East China Sea. Remarks: This new species is confused with Fusinus simplex (E. A. Smith, 1879) which is an extremely young specimen of 18mm in height, of a certain Fusinus species for a long time. After the critical observation on the holotype specimen of that species preserved in the British Museum of Natural History by the senior author T. Habe, the so-called Japanese specimens are not agree with the true Fusinus simplex (E. A. Smith, 1879) in having the thinner shell with more numerous and narrower longitudinal ribs and the oval aperture gradually narrowing to the long curved siphonal canal. Therefore this Japanese form is a different species naming as Simplicifusus noguchii. The specific name is dedicated to Mr. Hiroshi Noguchi in his honor.

G noguchii was originally described in Simplicifusus, SNYDER (2003a: 88) transferred the species to Granulifusus and placed Simplicifusus in synonymy of Granulifusus. G. noguchii differs from all other Granulifusus by the uniform while to off-white shell, the bulbous and inflated protoconch. the often weak inconspicuous spiral sculpture, and the absence of compressed horizontally oriented nodules on axial ribs.
