Oval fan-shaped, anterior auricle much larger than posterior, compressed with left valve slightly more so , solid, usually purple to orange-red, with ca. 50 radial ribs on main body, major ribs scaly throughout, 2-4 minor ribs between major ones; interior glossy white or pigmented as exterior. North Carolina to Florida, Bahamas, West Indies, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Central America, South America (Colombia, Brazil). Length 25 mm (to 41 mm). Formerly in Chlamys. Compare Cahbachlamys ornata, which has large patches of maroon or orange on the left valve and has radial ribs arranged in groups. Note: Also known as Sentis Scallop.
