Description

Description. — Shell elongate, slightly conical, fragile, with deep suture, without any separation between the two parts of the whorls, which are convex, especially the upper part. Protoconch typical for the family with a nucleus of about 40 µm and a diameter of about 150 µm. From the beginning of the teleoconch the sculpture is formed by about 8-10 furrows, which in the last whorl reach up to 16 in number. The furrows are narrower on the uppermost and lowermost parts of the whorls, whereas they are wider in the middle where they show evident ovoid depressions. Growth lines opisthocyrt with stronger curvature on the adapical part of the whorls. Aperture circular, columella slightly curved and reflected, almost closing a narrow and deep umbilicus. Dimensions: the holotype is 1.3 mm high.
Distribution. — So far, the species is only known from Panglao Isl., Philippines.
Etymology. — Alluding to the shape of the shell.
Remarks. — In spite of having only two shells available, this species is described as new based on the clear-cut differences with other species of the group.
The species resembles some other congenerics but the increase in diameter of the whorls is rapid, the suture is very deep, the spiral sculpture is wider and more noticeable in the most convex part of the whorl and almost linear above and below. All these characteristics are very different from any other species examined.
