Determination note

I suppose that this could be Lythrum, but not Lythrum hyssopifolia (which should not be so big and the flowers should be in leaf axils (shorter than the leaves!) and not form a real inflorescence. The plant looks peculiar to me and I am not sure about the species. Could this be Lythrum virgatum, a species which I have never seen?
