Popis

Type locality: off Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe, Caribbean Sea. Description Shell small, fusiform (W/H 0.42, A/H 0.54), weakly excavated at base, with high cyrtoconoid protoconch. Protoconch light-brown, high, of ca. 4 evenly rounded glossy whorls, transition to teleoconch clear-cut. Teleoconch of 4.5 whorls: first spire whorl evenly convex, next two with slightly flattened profile, widening abapically, last adult whorl gently convex, weakly demarcated from straight, stout, siphonal canal. Suture impressed. Sculpture of regular, fine, orthocline ribs with rounded crests, 30 on last whorl, 27 on penultimate whorl. Interspaces of equal breadth, with dense regular striae, adapical wider than those below, separating subsutural band. Spiral sculpture progressively stronger on shell base, forming 9 strong, oblique cords on siphonal canal. Aperture narrow, elongated, with distinct parietal callous pad; siphonal canal deep. Outer lip slightly thickened, bearing five distinct rounded denticles on inner side, adapical one strongest. Inner lip with well developed callus, bearing five columellar folds, adapical one strongest, next ones gradually diminishing in strength. Background color bright lemon yellow, with occasional small light-brown speckles at whorl periphery and on shell base at its transition to siphonal canal. Radula of around 30 transversal rows. Rachidian moderately wide, nearly triangular in shape due to presence of central projection bearing three closely-set cusps at its tip. Laterals simple, sickle- shaped. Etymology The species epithet refers to the distinctive lemon-yellow coloration of the shell. Distribution Known only from the type locality. Remarks Canaripusia citraea sp. nov. can be easily differentiated from other Caribbean costellariids included in our analysis from the characteristic shell coloration and the presence of distinctive denticles on the outer lip. The closest comparable species is C. catenata (Broderip, 1836), including its dark form, C. zythochroa (Melvill, 1888) ; both are very similar to C. citraea sp. nov. in shell shape. sculpture, and apertural features. The distinctive feature of C. citraea sp. nov. is its bright lemon color. with few very small brown spots on the shell periphery.
