Description

Ischnochiton papillosus (C. B. Adams, 1845) Mesh-pitted Chiton
Distribution: Florida, Texas; West Indies. Size: 10 to 19 mm.
Description: Color greenish; shape elongate-oval; ornamentation of numerous small beads arranged in angled rows; central valves slightly arched; lateral areas weakly raised; girdle covered with tiny ridges of oval scales. Habitat: On rocks, shell, or other hard substrate at depths from 0 to 37 m (121 ft).
Remarks: Found regularly on hard substrates in Texas bays south of Galveston. See Ode and Speers (1971c); Ode (1973b).
