saritoxin

Other names

STX
A paralytic poison, produced by the marine dinoflagellates Gonyaulax catenella and G. excavata. It can be accumulated by shellfish, making them toxic, when eaten. Its action is similar to that of tetrodotoxin, whit which it competes for sodium channels.
