Dle ICMW (Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World, 2020) patří S. gigantea do rodu Smutsia (stejně jako S. temminckii), vizte také https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28934931/ (článek je z roku 2017), druhy P. tetradactyla a P. tricuspis jsou v současnosti řazeny do rodu Phataginus.
