Dear Sir/Madam
Hello
Merry chistmass to all. Hope you have a very prosperous new year.AND with warmest regards to Prof.Hooper and Prof. Soest. Im Wahab from IRAN.who is Ph.D Student in Anmal biosystematic.
I am interesting to study on marine sponges of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea (Iranian Parts). I know this is a difficult task, but im very interested to do that. So I need your help. Let me to tell that this is a first serious effort in Iran. I think we have a good diversity in Iranian Parts of the Persian Gulf as a result of Carbonate platforms in this section.
As a PhD student I studied a lot of papers in the field of traditional as well as molecular taxonomy of marine sponges from Prof.Hooper, Prof.Soest , Dr.Wörheide, Dr.Borchiellini, Dr.Erpenbect and others .
But I was confused about the Species Concept in marine sponges. Actually I don’t know which of the current species concepts is compatible to sponges. As I realized from the papers, Biological species concept is not applicable. Is the cohesive species concept is sutable or not?
I would really apprecieate if you help me about the Species meaning in sponges. As you know this is a basic issue for identification.
I am very enthusiast to hear you.
Thank you so much for your kind attention and sorry for inconvenience.
Sincerely yours
Wahab,PhD student, Tehran University
