stem (of a name)

n.
For the purposes of the Code,
(1) that part (or the whole) of the name of the type genus to which is added a family-group suffix (see Article 29), or
(2) that part of a name to which is added a genitive ending (q.v.) when forming a species-group name which is a noun in the genitive case [Art. 31.1.2].
