Type taxon:Cerambyx (Lamia) daviesii Swederus, 1787

The taxonomy of Acanthoderes is complicated by the fact that the descriptor selected no type.
Moreover, Haldeman misinterpreted Aegomorphus Dejean, 1835 nomen nudum, which actually corresponded to the current Aegoschema Aurivillius, 1923.
Haldeman’s name is valid for monotypy; but the topic about the designation is actually specious since Aegomorphus Haldeman entries within the variability of Acanthoderes, as it has already been noticed in the past (Lacordaire, 1872; Seidlitz, 1875).

According to Audinet-Serville (1835), Acanthoderes has masculine gender, but "dere" is feminine in Greek; hence, Acanthoderes must be feminine according to the ICZN Art. 30.1.1.
